The Line of Business Owner (LOB) is responsible and accountable for strategic execution focused on whole product delivery, roadmap design, sales support, branding, and on-time delivery of competitive offerings. This role is responsible for the P&L up to Gross Margin for their Business Line. The person is responsible for achieving sales revenue, renewals, implementation services, and margin contribution goals for product suites and product in their line of business.

 

Specific for Content, Market segmentation and regional Product Management:

Content is the core of our systems and one of the key differentiators for Vertex. Content is also the foundation to be successful in specific market segments since it is the reflection of the market segment characteristics. 


The LOB of Content and Market segmentation is responsible to identify the market segmentations for Vertex to target and facilitate the process to derive the specific requirements for this markets.
In conjunction with the other Business Lines She/He  is responsible to define the roadmaps for our new content generation and manage the Backlog of our content generating teams.

In this context regional expansion is one of the key growth opportunities that Vertex is executing on. To do this successful it is imperative to understand regional requirements and technology trends, which is the key responsibility of the regional product management team.
 

 
Responsibilities:
  • Creating a Vision for the Business with respect to target markets, market share across the Vertex Solution portfolio.
  • Provides cross functional leadership for virtual teams in creating service and market strategy.  Works closely with other LOB Owners and product/service teams to ensure that the whole product needs of our customers and target segments are being met. 
  • Establishes service positioning and works closely with marketing/branding personnel, and others in the company to define, position, and launch services into various targeted segments.
  • At the Line of Business level, ensures that the Content Roadmaps reflect Vertex’s Leadership position, are up to date, complete and accurate for both internal and customer presentation.
  • Drives creation of business cases for new content offerings and ensures senior management is presented information necessary to make informed decisions.
  • Understand regional market trends and derives regional market requirements.
  • Proactively recommends, drives and implement organizational/structural changes, delivery processes, and procedures in coordination with other leaders to deliver improved service and greater cost efficiency.
  • Participates in setting the mid-term strategic and technical direction for Vertex and translates high level direction and strategy into tactical direction for offerings for their lines of business.
  • Ensures Market Segment requirements are reflected across Line of Business.  
  • Routinely engages with prospects, customers, internal staff, partners and industry analysts to understand market requirements and opportunities. 
  • Routinely attends trade shows and maintains excellent awareness and fluency in competitor offerings leading to driving differentiated product offerings and enable sales and marketing differentiation in offerings. 
  • Creates and maintains mechanism for receiving and tracking input on requirements from prospects, customers, internal staff, partners, trade shows and industry analysts.  
  • Provides Business Line related sales targets and aligns them with the Sales team. Ensures sales force is trained about existing content.  
  • Refines the organizational structure for their Line of Business when needed. 
  • Acts as an internal and external product evangelist for the product suites in their line of business. 
  • Manages all PM personnel related processes for their LOB, including: selection, resource allocation, performance management, employee relations, employee development and team organization etc. 
  • Leads forecasting, planning and budgeting processes for their LOB

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong Leadership capabilities and proven ability to mentor others and developing other leaders. 
  • Experienced in leading cross functional virtual Teams
  • Understanding how to manage Business globally
  • Must have excellent Business acumen with the capability to develop Vision and strategy for the business line
  • Strong understanding of markets, market segmentation and how to derive features and go to market strategies from that segmentation.
  • Understanding of tax automation markets and relevance of content  
  • Understands how to execute on business strategy through optimizing the business model for productivity gains. 
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, required.
  • Excellent presentation skills with ability to make presentations to industry forums, standards organizations and act as a company spokesperson. 
  • Successful experience leading and managing product management teams and product lifecycle management processes in a (approx) $500 million software firm.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships at all levels – customer, executive, team, etc.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, BEA or other leading software company or big four companies a plus
  • Proven ability to set Objectives, stay on task, overcome obstacles, meet deadlines and milestones and deliver work by agreed upon dates.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results with virtually distributed global teams
 
Education and Experience:  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. required.  MBA preferred.  CPA, CSDP, AIPMM, IPT certifications a plus.
  • Minimum 8+ years of software or consulting industry experience in product strategy and management, P&L management and leading teams.
