Manage Payroll staff to ensure the accurate and timely processing of an international, multi-state, multi-company payroll operation; to maintain compliance with all international, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements; to ensure the integrity of the payroll system, payroll data and time entry system.


  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of an international multi-state, multi-company payroll operation for a 1,000+ employee company.
  • Ensure proper internal control processes are being followed and supports year-end audit field work related to payroll including SOX compliance. 
  •  Identify and maintain systems and processes to ensure seamless collection and processing of payroll data.
  • Maintain compliance with all international and domestic federal, state, and local payroll tax regulatory requirements.
  •  Partner with HR to ensure effective and efficient processing of compensation and benefits data.
  • Create and maintain documentation around payroll policies and procedures.
  • Act as subject matter expert (“SME”) for inquiries related to payroll tax impacts resulting from various compensation types.
  • Support administration of Equity Award compensation and reporting to ensure proper compliance and application of payroll taxes. 
  • Ensure accurate accounting/general ledger coding and reporting accuracy for all payroll related activity.
  • Manage and assess all 3rd party vendor relationships (domestic and international).
  • Oversee vendor selection processes.
  • Oversee and provide for the development of payroll staff.
  • Lead all payroll system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continuous process improvements to create efficiencies and best-practice operations within the payroll function.
  • Create and maintain reports for repetitive and ad-hoc requests of earnings, payroll taxes and other related payroll data. 
  •  Promote effective communication with all internal and external company stakeholders.
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of employee year-end tax related statements.
  • Acts as business owner/SME for Oracle Time and Labor application. 
  • Act as payroll SME on company projects as required.
  • Continually enhance job knowledge, both domestically and internationally.
  • Participate in other projects or duties.


  •  Manage and coach team on all personnel related processes including selection, performance management, employee relations, compensation and rewards, employee development, etc. 
  • Work closely with the Finance Leadership to strategize and address issues and insure alignment.
  • Own attainment of high employee satisfaction and retention; leads development of programs and initiatives within group to attain high employee satisfaction. 
  • Prepare and manage budget as assigned; analyzes variances and initiates corrective actions to maximize operational performance.
  • Define annual Key Performance Indicators aligned with corporate goals.
  •  Determine appropriate resourcing of staff in order to achieve goals and objectives.


  • Advanced knowledge of payroll tax laws and accounting implications.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills.   
  • Previous management responsibilities of the day-to-day operations of the payroll function. 
  • Strong experience performing payroll, general ledger, tax and related payroll reconciliations.
  • Expert payroll systems knowledge including testing and applying upgrades and enhancements.
  • Expert ability to supervise, train and develop payroll staff. 
  • Expert analytical skills. 
  • Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational skills.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages is required; requires strong proficiency with Excel and databases
  •  Must manage time and priorities effectively by completing tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.
  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Must be results oriented, customer focused, and exhibit good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office packages.
  • Sufficient knowledge of business communications, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or the equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Ten (10) years of payroll experience in a multi-state environment including international payroll exposure
  • Six (6) six years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working for a public company with complex Equity Award compensation plans.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • ADP experience required.
  • Experience with international payroll and compliance required.
